High Adventure Team Publications

The Trail Head: Document of record of the programs and activities of the HAT. It contains minutes of HAT meetings, an annual schedule of activities, training announcements, and articles about subjects that pertain to High Adventure. It is published bi-monthly and mailed to subscribers. Scoutmasters of record with the LAAC receive it at no charge. Other subscribers pay a nominal, annual fee.

HAT HiLites: Monthly, one-page newsletter - strictly High Adventure. Information is provided about current conditions in the Sierras and local mountains and deserts, a calendar of events for three months, a calendar of upcoming, major events, and key contact in HAT and the local Forest Service. It is distribute at District Roundtables, HAT events, and through the HAT e-mail service.

Hike Aids: Basic information about a High Adventure Program or specific material about other LAAC-HAT sponsored programs. They supplement, and add a Scouting perspective to, books and other materials which are commercially available, and to complement the syllabuses which are used in the training program. They are posted on this website, or may be purchased at the Scout Shop in the LAAC-Service Center.

Program Announcements: Brief, detailed information about on-going, special, or limited duration activities, awards, etc. They are distributed at District Roundtables, HAT events, and through the HAT e-mail service.

Training Bulletins: A brief description of each training session and its date, location, and registration fee. The bottom third is a detachable form, to be submitted to LAAC-Camping Services, along with the fee. They are distributed at District Roundtables, HAT events, and through the HAT e-mail service.

Training Syllabuses: Material about the topics that are covered in the training seminars and field experiences. They provide a written text, plus supplemental information as appropriate to the training. They are given to persons who attend these courses.

Training Staff Guides: Information about organizing and conducting a training session. They are available to persons who are assisting in these tasks.
